The Physician Pharmacist

"Don't be afraid to start over again.
This time you're not starting from scratch, you're starting from experience."

What started as a distant dream has come to fruition after many years of preparation. I went from being rejected from my high school health science fast-track program to securing two healthcare doctorates, becoming a self-published author, and business owner. Funny how "Overnight Success" takes years to develop. Introducing the first and only networking platform for pharmacy students and graduates to learn about the intricacies of the medical school application process! As a future pharmacist, you are already on the way to tremendous success but it may not be the final profession you end up in. I created The Physician Pharmacist and "Pharm.D. To M.D." to highlight this reality.

Over the years I have come across many pharmacy professionals who longed for broader patient connection, enhanced decision making capabilities, and the ability to perform hands-on procedural work. Some of these desires can be achieved by choosing to become a Nurse, a Physician Assistant, or even a Clinical Pharmacist. The only issue is that each of these aforementioned professions lacks the holistic approach to medical care. Only a physician can truly dictate the final care for a patient and tie all of these unique skills under one umbrella. However, choosing to pursue a career in medicine is a simple solution in concept, but has proven to be far more complicated than many anticipate. I certainly underestimated this massive undertaking and made plenty of costly mistakes along the way. I created this platform and these resources to improve the medical school application experience for those who come after me. If I can help just one person along the way then this endeavor will have been worth it!

I would like to point out that each year, there are pharmacy graduates from every pharmacy program across the country that decide to continue their education. If you are thinking about this possibility, I want you to know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. This avenue is becoming increasingly popular as students seek out MBAs, MDs, JDs and even Ph.Ds after acquiring their PharmD. Most pharmacy students have worked tirelessly to acquire these coveted credentials at the end of their name. Why not show them how to make those very same letters work to their advantage? The Physician Pharmacist may be a catchy business name today, but will one day be a commonality in our growing healthcare world.

I want to call upon all pharmacy students who ever considered going to medical school to read about this potential career path. For anyone who loves medications but desires the clinical knowledge of pathology. For those who are interested in a diagnostic approach to medicine, those who desire to make the final decision in a patient's treatment, or even students who wish to avoid a pharmacy residency, the path to medical school has never been clearer!

There is an old Chinese proverb that states 'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.' I believe this wholeheartedly, and you too can achieve your wildest dreams. All it takes is conviction, a passion to learn, and the willingness to take that first step!
